Digital District collaborates in the 2nd edition of the AI Saturdays artificial intelligence course that starts on January 25 in Alicante

  • AI Saturdays Alicante, a pioneering initiative that makes Artificial Intelligence accessible to anyone, are back

Alicante, January 23, 2020.- Comunitat Valenciana Digital District  collaborates with the National Association of Big Data and Analytics (ANBAN), the Technological Institute of Informatics (ITI), the University of Alicante (UA) and AlicanTEC in the organization of the II AI Saturdays Alicante artificial intelligence course edition, which starts on 25 January.

AI Saturdays Alicante is part of the #AISaturdays movement, a global non-profit initiative created with the mission of making AI accessible to anyone through projects with social impact. So far, AI Saturdays has helped more than 15,000 people worldwide, from students to senior professionals, including postdocs and entrepreneurs, to use AI to have a greater impact. IA Saturdays Alicante

In its first call celebrated in 2019 in Digital District and considered a landmark success, the AI Saturdays Alicante had 40 participants and  generated large interest, so this year we will have a second edition under the same scheme and parameters of innovation and quality.

Therefore, its training program will include again 12 sessions that will take place on Saturdays from 09:30 to 14:00, at the University of Alicante. Throughout the course, #AIFellows (students) participants will receive specific training in artificial intelligence, collaboratively and project-based, beyond the path of conventional education. The contents have been renewed in the part of unsupervised learning as well as in the introduction to neural networks.

With regard to teaching staff, the AI Saturdays Alicante will again have about twenty collaborations of experts and some other specialists in the field of AI who have joined this innovative initiative.

The Demo Day will be the culmination of the training sessions, a meeting where the students’ real projects of artificial intelligence will be presented. Additionally, it has to be borne in mind that in the first edition, the students designed a total of eight projects that were exposed precisely during this last day called ‘Real Applications of Machine Learning: Demo Day’, which included a dialogue table on the application of artificial intelligence in real situations.

The eight projects proposed in 2019 were related to practical aspects such as the registration of pollution rates; the measurement of the evolution of the Housing market, the calculation of the possibilities of receiving an attack on a Wi-Fi network; the analysis of feelings through messages posted on Twitter or the evolution of the Housing market.

Also, applications of great interest related to the functions of an artificial pancreas, the diagnosis of eye diseases and predictions linked to solar panels for self-consumption were also developed.

Methodology

The learning experience will be structured through Saturdays where students, led by volunteer facilitators, learn the most relevant techniques to build real products powered by artificial intelligence:

  • In the first half of the course, the course is developed with a “code2learn” approach, where exercises are practiced to learn the basics of Machine Learning.
  • In the second half of the course, until the demonstration day, the “build2learn” phase takes place, where #AIFellows build a project with social impact using AI collaboratively.
  • Finally, the presentation of AI projects will take place on the Demo Day.

IA Satudays Alicante In addition to the official sessions, this training experience will have the contribution of experts in their field who will help complete the training.

On the other hand, Comunitat Valenciana Digital District collaborates with the organization of the Demo Day AI Saturdays València which will be celebrated on February 13 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).

In this meeting, attendees will be able to see the work done by the #AIFellows, who have developed real Machine Learning applications focused on information services on the state of the beaches, IAmobilitat solutions, tools adjusted to the needs of blind people, linked to diagnosis of skin lesions and even to the service of prevention and control of water leaks at home.
